What exactly is The Cycle about?

The Cycle is a Competitive Quest Shooter, or in other words, a PvEvP game. On Fortuna III you compete against other Prospectors or collaborate with them to claim as much resources as possible. Only problem is, the planet is hostile and in more ways the one: alien wildlife that tends to want to rip your face off, Prospectors that are at best untrustworthy and at worse absolutely murderous. And then there’s the storm cycle, which, if you don’t make it to evac in time, will absolutely ensure the end of you. But hey, you could get rich!

Sounds like another Battle Royale game, is it?

The win condition of Battle Royale games is “last man standing“, whereas in The Cycle the winner is the Prospector that completes the most contracts during the match and manages to evacuate the planet in time. Theoretically, you can play the game without any PvP and hunting other players is not a win condition in The Cycle.

Nonetheless, there might be moments, when it’s best to put yourself first, for instance when it comes to sharing the spoils of a mission, or if you want to stop another Prospector from getting too far ahead of you on the match leaderboard.

It is up to you, how you spend your time on Fortuna III, as long as survive and make bank.

So in short, no, it’s not a Battle Royale game, it’s a Competitive Quest Shooter and a PvEvP game which is trying to do something else.

Come try it for yourself and let us know, what you think about it.

How many players are in a match?

Will The Cycle be on a different platform, like steam?

This might be the case in one year from now, and we leave the option open to bring The Cycle to many other platforms, not only Steam. But for now, our entire focus goes into the Epic Games Store and the game’s development

Why are you exclusive at Epic Games Store?

There are many reasons, and it might sound a bit selfish, but in the end, it was a decision in our favor. It helps us to make a better game, simple as that!

With the Epic partnership, we gain access to a lot of tools and middleware being developed by Epic. Running an online game is a beast and you need to invest in various systems outside of pure game development. Online services, databases, patching and updates, payment integration, and so much more. Normally a developer teams up with a games publisher responsible for building those systems in return for a specific portion of the game’s revenue. By being exclusive to the Epic Games Store, we get all those tools for free! We don’t need to develop them nor pay a publisher to do it for us. This is a fantastic opportunity as it enables us to self-publish the game and stay in control of everything with much shorter communication lines, especially in regards to player feedback.

The second argument is the discoverability of the store: The Epic Games Store is fresh and not overburdened with thousands of games. There are only a few online games available and The Cycle is one of them. So instead of competing in an overcrowded environment, it is quite easy to spot and play our game. Less competition, more players, more fun!

The last argument is nothing new, the revenue split between Epic and us is much more developer-friendly. It makes a huge difference if the split is 30% or only 12%. And this difference helps us to develop much more content in the future.

All in all, there are 3 arguments driving our decision – and all arguments lead to only one goal: making a better game!
